BCYC RYA Training Courses
Watersports at Cheddar Reservoir
BCYC is based at Cheddar Reservoir, and is a recognised Training Centre and Champion Club certified by the Royal Yachting Association, the governing body for sailing in the U.K.
We have a team of RYA qualified Instructors (Dinghy, Windsurf and Powerboat Instructors) which enables our club to offer a variety of taster sessions and training courses for adults and juniors. Training at the club is overseen by the RYA Principal, John Allen, and coordinated by Dinghy Chief Instructor Karen Turner and Powerboat Chief Instructor Charles Richardson.
We offer to members and non-members:
- Adult RYA sailing courses - Start Sailing, Level 1; Basic Skills, Level 2
- Youth RYA sailing courses - Stage 1; Stage 2; Stage 3; Stage 4; Advanced.
- Improver Sailing, Social Sailing and Start Racing Training for adults and juniors
- Pay and Play training and taster sessions for adults and juniors
- Junior Club (8-11) and Youth (12+) training and improver sessions

All course prices include the use of all equipment, wetsuit and buoyancy aid.
Use of BCYC hire craft and facilities
BCYC has a fleet of hire craft - sailing dinghies, windsurfers, kayaks and stand up paddleboards (SUPs). Members who are RYA Level 2 Qualified can hire the club sailing dinghies. Other club equipment (kayaks, windsurfers, SUPs, wetsuits and buoyancy aids) is available for hire by club members. Contact email@example.com
Here are the courses we offer:
Taster Session - A two hour sailing session costing £60 per person. Suitable for all ages. Date and time arranged at your convenience.
One-on-one Lesson (Pay and Play) £120 for members or £160 for non-members for full day - date arranged at your convenience. Suitable for all ages.
Five Day RYA Level 1&2 Course for Adults - Starts 29th April 2017
This five day course is on Sat 29th April, Sun 30th, Monday 1st May (Bank Holiday), plus the following weekend Sat 6th and Sun 7th May.
This course is aimed at new members to the club, or members returning to sailing and wanting a refresher course and to meet fellow members.
Cost £150 for members or £280 for non-members (includes 1 year BCYC membership).
RYA Level 1 Courses - suitable for adults
The RYA courses cost £60 per day per person for members and £80 per day per person for non-members. If RYA logbooks or handbooks are required, these cost £7 each.

RYA Sailing Basics (Level 2)
Courses are three days and are scheduled according to demand (same prices as above) Please Register Interest Here and you will be contacted when courses are being scheduled
RYA Courses and 3-day family sailing weeks are run during Summer Holidays.
Parents are encouraged to learn to sail at the same time as their children or help out on and off the water.
3 day Summer Holiday Courses For Adults
All three day courses cover RYA Level 1 and introduction to Level 2. Cost £180 for members and £240 for non-members. If RYA logbooks or handbooks are required, these cost £7 each. 3 day Summer Holiday Courses For Children Aged 8+
Three day courses cover RYA Youth Sailing scheme Stage 1 to 4 Cost £150 for members and £180 for non-members. If RYA logbooks or handbooks are required, these cost £7 each.

Adult Improvers, Social Sailing and Start Racing
Held on the second Saturday of each month, the BCYC improvers meet for free coaching and advice from experienced BCYC members, RYA coaches and instructors. These ad hoc sessions vary in size and will focus on all aspects of improving sailing, with the emphasis on having fun and being social on and off the water.
Junior and Youth Sailing for BCYC members
Optimist, Topper and RS Tera dinghies are available for junior and youth members to go sailing.
Friday Night Club - run by parents, supported by RYA Coach. All ages £5 a session payable on the night.
Junior Club (8-11) starts on Saturday 3rd Jun for eight weeks. These are half day MORNING sessions to introduce youngster to sailing. Parents are encouraged to help out and get involved with the sailing activities. Cost is £40 for the 8 week session.
Youth Sailing (12+) starts on Saturday 10th June for eight weeks. These are half day AFTERNOON sessions. Parents encouraged to assist, cost is £40 for the 8 week session.
Older and more experienced sailors can gain their RYA qualifications from Saturday afternoon sessions according to demand. Contact email@example.com for further information

The club safety boat training takes place on the first Saturday of each month. Additional RYA powerboat courses are provided to meet demand from the members. RYA Dinghy Instructor Course
Training is delivered by club members who hold the RYA "Dinghy Instructor" certificate. If you are over 16 and interested in becoming a Dinghy Instructor please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Assistant Dinghy Instructors
Gain experience instructing by becoming an "Assistant Dinghy Instructor". The ADI qualification involves a day of instruction and then 20 hours of "on the job" training with a DI whilst assisting with the club training. Contact email@example.com
